Update Your Wardrobe!

Easy Ideas to Update Your Wardrobe for the New Year!

  • Is this the year you finally buy the perfect jeans?
  • Will you purge your old clothes and start fresh?
  • Find the perfect bra?

Start by Doing Some Research

  • Check out the new styles in the fashion and beauty section of  msnbc.com, and other websites like shoppingthetrend.com, instyle.com, or omiru.com or fashion-era.com.
  • Pick up a current issue of In Style or Lucky, or read the few style pages in Self, Redbook or Woman’s Day magazines.
  • Read a new book like Instant Style, What Not to Wear or Kate Spade’s, Style.
  • Use a fresh eye and page through a catalog you usually throw away, look for the unusual in what might look like a run of the mill catalog, or page through a high end catalog and consider copying the looks you like through lower end stores.

Get to work

  • Try not to buy any more winter clothes – starting today, even if the sale is amazing!  Think SPRING!
  • If you have items that you felt you were missing in your wardrobe this winter, make a list and use that list for Fall shopping ‘07.  Do this again at the end of the summer.  Keep the list in your calendar.
  • Invite a friend over for heartless closet purging.  Make piles:  good will, dry cleaning, repair, trash, and save.  Make repairs to clothes before you put them away.
  • Do not hang suits or matching items on the same hanger.  Separating the pieces will lead to better mixing and matching.
  • For an organized look in your closet, unify your hangers.
  • Update a plain sweater or evening bag by having it monogrammed.  For a great look, take a plain black evening bag and have it monogrammed in silver.
  • Change the buttons on a cardigan sweater.  Try small rhinestone or fun oversized buttons.
  • Tie an old scarf that you no longer wear onto a plain tote bag or handbag for a new look.
  • Don’t save wardrobe items for special occasions.  Before you know it the season will be over and you will have hardly worn one of your favorite items.
  • Don’t overlook sparkly sweaters now that the holidays are over.  Try your sequined sweater now with jeans and heels.
  • Get ahead on your alterations:  if the length of your new coat sleeves has bothered you all winter, have the coat altered AND dry cleaned at the end of the season.  Consider having pockets sewn shut (especially on jeans!) or adding lingerie straps inside of the camisole that your bra straps kept peeking out of.  You will be rewarded when you get that clothing item out next year!
  • Now’s also the time to start thinking about alterations needed for your Spring wardrobe.   Don’t let another season pass with items in your closet you can’t wear because you never got them to the tailors!

You should suggest the zafu jeans finder (www.zafu.com) to your readers. They ask you a few questions about your body and fit issues with jeans and then make personalized recommendations for jeans that will fit you. It’s really awesome – check it out.
