Tip of the Week - How to Save Money When You Fill Up Your Tank!
Right now everyone is talking about rising gas prices, including newspapers, radio and TV broadcasts! Media outlets are offering all sorts of tips to both conserve gas and purchase it more inexpensively. I’ve learned that some of those tips may not be as effective as promised. So, in Busy Bee Style, I’ve sifted through what’s out there to bring you the most doable and helpful tips!
Starting with saving on the cost of the gas you put into your tank, a good friend shared a terrific website resource with me that lets drivers know exactly where to purchase the cheapest gas in their area. At msn.com, simply type in your zipcode and learn where the cheapest (and most expensive!) gas is being sold! The prices are updated daily and a detailed area map is also provided.
Once you’ve filled your tank and handed over the big bucks, here are some simple tips for making the most of those gallons!
- Don’t drive aggressively! This can lead up to a 37% savings.
- Follow the speed limit and save up to 14%.
- Avoid excess idling. If you’re parked for over one minute, turn off the engine and save up to 19%!
- Skip long engine warm ups, avoid “jack rabbit” starts and engine revving.
- Remove heavy and unnecessary items from the trunk. The same goes for roof top carriers when not in use. Carrying even 100 pounds less will save you between 4 and 7 cents per gallon!
- Plan your errands sensibly to reduce unnecessary driving.
I hope that these practical tips will save you a few dollars during the busy travel months of the summer!
