eatthisnotthat.jpgTip of the Week -  Dieting on the Run or on the Road!

Dieting is tough enough when you’re at home and on a regular schedule, but during the busy travel months of summer, it’s almost impossible to maintain healthy eating habits.  But here are two great resources for eating well when your busy plans include fast food and restaurant meals!

Eat This, Not That

The first is a very well reviewed book entitled, Eat This, Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds or More!  by David Zinczenko.  After surveying the menu selections of chain restaurants and grocery stores, this author has come up with thousands of very specific suggestions for making healthier choices.

For example, McDonald’s Egg McMuffin sandwich will only set you back 300 calories, while the hotcake platter delivers over 600 calories!  Similarly, a cinnamon roll from Au Bon Pain has 463 fewer calories and 20 less grams of fat than its Cinnabon counterpart!  Armed with this book, you can return from vacation with extra souvenirs, not extra pounds! (Eat This Not That, Amazon.com, $11.97)

Healthy Dining Finder

The second resource is a website entitled Healthy Dining Finder.  This unique site allows travelers to find healthy menu choices wherever they happen to find themselves!  At Healthy Dining Choices, you enter the city and state where you wish to locate a restaurant, how far you’d like to travel to get there, and whether you are looking for fast food, casual or upscale dining.  Once you’ve entered the information, a list of restaurants fitting the criteria is generated.  Then, you are just a click away from viewing a list of each restaurant’s menu offerings that meet specific nutritional guidelines!  Bonus information includes addresses, mileage and maps!  This site is worth a try even if you aren’t traveling! Dieting is never fun, but maybe these two information sources will make it a bit easier!
