Tips for Packing Your Carry On Bags
Most airlines today allow you to carry on a pocketbook and one tote bag or small suitcase. Here’s what I suggest you carry on the plane when you travel:
In Your Pocketbook
Along with the usual items such as wallet, cell phone, sunglasses, lipstick, tissues, and car keys, be sure to include
- Airline tickets
- A valid driver’s license!
- Passport if needed
- Birth certificates for your children if needed
- A note recording where you’ve parked
- $20 in $1 bills for ease of tipping skycaps and bellmen
In Your Tote Bag
- Reading material
- iPod
- Jewelry in a small jewelry pouch
- Camera
- Prescription medicine that anyone in your family might be taking*
- Eyeglasses
Try not to let this bag get too heavy as the walk between terminals can get really long!
*If you are packing prescription medicine, make sure that it is labeled with a professionally printed label which identifies the drug and manufacturer/pharmaceutical company. The name on the medicine container must match the name of a ticketed passenger.
Don’t forget the 3-1-1 rule: No liquids over 3 ounces, all liquids in one 1 quart zip lock bag and one bag per traveler. Check tsa.gov for more details.
