Tip of the Week - Utilize Your Laundry Baskets!
Every wash day, the primary purpose of your laundry baskets is sadly very clear! There’s sorting, folding and putting away to be finished so that you can do it all again next week! (or perhaps even tomorrow!) But, in my house, laundry baskets serve a wide array of other uses that you just might find useful as well!
Monday Morning Mayhem
After crazily busy weekends, my house on Monday morning is trashed! (literally!) To tame the chaos, I start at one end of the house (sometimes the top, sometimes the bottom) armed with a trash bag and a laundry basket. I make my way from room to room, adding stray items to the basket and family “debris” into the trash bag. (I really wasn’t kidding about the trash!)
Perfect Packing
A few days before packing for vacation, I place a basket in everyone’s room. As clothes and accessories are washed and cleaned for the trip, I place them in the various baskets. Right before leaving, I fill our suitcases directly from the baskets!
Vacation Rental Home Readiness
When we rent a beach house, it’s necessary to bring your own sheets and towels. I load these linens into laundry baskets and then put the baskets right into the car. After the beach house beds are made, I put an empty basket into each closet and use them for dirty laundry!
Party Preparation
To make getting ready for a party less stressful, I make a list of what I need to either buy or gather from around the house. During the weeks and last few days before the party, I collect these items and store them in a laundry basket or two.
Some examples include table linens, candles, candle sticks, ice buckets, salt and pepper shakers, serving dishes, paper goods, unopened food items (like crackers, chips, and salsa), serving utensils and more. On the morning of the party, I simply unload the baskets and arrange my table!
Quick Company Clean Up
This is a little trick that I often used in my tiny first home! If guests were coming and time was short, I’d fill a laundry basket with all of the clutter, magazines and junk laying around the house and hide the basket in my car!
Car Clean Up
When the inside of my car resembles a trash heap, I carry a laundry basket and a trash bag out to the car and empty it out in one fell swoop! This saves on multiple trips to and from the car!
A Final Note
In a final note, my Rubbermaid laundry baskets (a total of 20 of them!) are all the same size, rectangular in shape and white. This way when not in use, I can stack them up easily and they take up less storage space!
This week go ahead and take a look at your laundry day staple in a new way!

Love the laundry basket ideas! I, like most folks, I’m guessing, keep a basket or two around and when I remember, I use them. Too often they fill up, get moved to the basement and sit to collect dust or get hidden under Mount Laundry. Now that I have a BASKET PLAN in mind, I think I’ll be much more organized.
THANKS!
I love this! I do some of this, but great new ideas!
