Tip of the Week – Swim Suit Shopping 101

Tip of the Week -  Swim Suit Shopping 101!

Recently our fashion maven, Shannon, offered readers wonderful advice for finding the perfect bathing suit (see Swimsuit Season)!  From my end though, not being a fashion maven and dreading swimsuit shopping, here’s some advice for reluctant shoppers like me!

Before You Hit the Mall

  • Apply self tanner the day before you shop to ease the dressing room shock.
  • Dress in an outfit that’s easy on and off for quick changes.
  • Make sure that you have plenty of time and shop early in the day, preferably before a three-course meal!
  • Take inspiration from your wardrobe.  Do you love halters?  Strapless dresses?  Solids or prints?

When You’re in the Store

  • Plan to try on several sizes since the general rule is to go up one size when choosing a swimsuit.
  • Make sure that the straps are secure – not too tight or too loose.
  • Move around to make sure that “everything” stays in place.
  • Stick to sophisticated colors leaving the neon brights and graphics to the teenagers.
  • No prints if you’re full figured and no white suits for anyone!

Back at Home

  • You’ve survived the shopping, but don’t think that you’re done forever!  Plan to buy a new bathing suit every other year as a rule of thumb.
  • Keep your purchase looking good by hand washing in cool water and line drying.
  • Consider buying a gentle detergent specifically designed for bathing suits like the Laundress Swimwear Care.

Best of luck with this difficult challenge and remember that you’re not alone!  Here’s to happy days beach side and pool side!
