Ribbon Tied Tablecloth Corners!
My dining room table has just one leaf, but when that leaf is in place, it makes the table quite a bit larger, requiring a larger sized tablecloth. I found that I alternated between buying tablecloths to accommodate the table with or without the leaf. Since I really do love table linens, this approach really wasn’t practical!
I solved this problem by only purchasing linens in the larger size. When the leaf is in place, the linens are perfectly sized. And when the leaf is not needed, I still use the same linens, but tie each corner with a ribbon that coordinates with the cloth. (Black grosgrain ribbon is the type I use most often because it matches so many patterns!) The ribbon pulls up the length, similar to a roman window shade, and creates what is actually a very decorative element! Give this tip a try and you’ll see how attractive your table will look while reducing the number of tablecloths you feel the need to purchase!

Thanks so much for the be-ribboned tablecloth
entry! My husband and I bought a wonderful French farm table while we lived in NYC; unfortunately it is an unusually long and narrow size. I’ve purchased two tablecloths in the past year that are perfect patterns for my dining room, but just don’t look right on the narrow table. Of course my plans to have them altered will never come to pass — but now I know an attractive way to continue to use these cloths. In addition, the colorful ribbon I use will add a charming touch, I’m sure.
Thanks for the advice and the lovely photo!
