Tip of the Week - Put Together a Jigsaw Puzzle!

Myraid of Colour by Educa

I love this old fashioned pastime, especially during the summer months!  For the last few years, our family has brought a large, 1000 piece puzzle along on our beach vacation.  We set the pieces up on the coffee table and everyone gets involved from the youngest to the oldest!  Even visitors to the house can’t resist trying to fit in a piece or two!

This summer, I’ve encouraged “puzzling” at home, too!  Once again, on the coffee table, my children and I have worked on a number of fun puzzles.  This is a great change from idle TV watching!  Plus, if mom or dad gets involved, the children will definitely join in and before you know it, some family bonding will have occurred!  Depending upon the ages of your children, you may want to set up two puzzles side by side, one easy and one challenging.  But don’t underestimate your kids- my six year old actively works on the large puzzles with everyone else!

If you head to the internet to purchase some puzzles, you’ll find many sites that offer on-line jigsaw puzzles.  I particularly like puzzleworld.com for purchasing traditional jigsaw puzzles.   This site sells a wide array of designs, including kid friendly puzzles.  Puzzle World divides puzzles by theme, brand and most importantly, piece count.  Shipping is free on orders over $75 and internet orders receive free puzzle glue!

Give jigsaw puzzles a try at your home or on your vacation!  There is something really nice about this inexpensive, mind sharpening and family gathering activity!  Best wishes for a completed puzzle without a single missing piece!
