Tip of the Week – Pre-Approved Credit Card Letters!

How many of these letters do you receive in the mail each week, if not each DAY?  Between those addressed to my husband and those addressed to me, I’d say dozens.  Not only are we uninterested in these credit offers, but the disposal of these letters is a serious issue.  These pre-approved credit cards are prime targets for identity theft.

Recently, NBC news reported on a website to help you put an end to these letters, optoutprescreen.com.  At first, this site concerned me because it asked for some very personal information, but further research found that the “opt out” site is supported by the Federal Trade Commission, ftc.gov, and fraudguides.com.  The FTD site reassured readers that personal information is kept confidential.  The “opt out” site only displays the last four digits of your social security number and offers other safeguards.  You can choose to opt out for five years or permanently.

Don’t forget that if you and your spouse share any financial matters, you will both have to “opt out” individually.

I hope that this information is helpful to Busy Bee readers!!!
