Tip of the Week – Organize Your Home Decorating!

Organize Your Home Decorating!

When we first moved into our current home, I approached decorating with a clean slate!  Our new home was in good condition, but needed freshening on every front!  We wanted new furniture, window treatments, wall covering, paint, and accessories.  There is no denying that this had to be done in stages and so here’s my latest tip:

Grab a small photo album (a “brag book” size) or a small coupon organizer.  For each page or pocket, assign a room in your home.  Your next step is to fill each pocket with small pieces of that room’s decorative items like paint chips, fabric swatches, wall paper samples, and decorative trim samples.  If you stow this book in your purse or glove box, your colors will always be handy.  If you come across a lovely painting, you can check to see if the colors work!  If you find table linens that you like, you can determine if they coordinate with your dining room!

And even if you’ve decorated a while ago, don’t hesitate to create this compact record of your choices!  This week I was having some work done in my kitchen and the painter asked me what color I had painted the trim.  I didn’t know!!  I had stopped saving paint chips and the like because I thought I had passed that stage!  It’s never too late to create a log of your creative choices!
