Make the Most of Family Meal Times!
If you are lucky enough to get your entire family around the dinner table at one time, don’t stop there! Make the most of this special time together! After bringing dinner to the table, consider bringing what some call “table talkers” or “conversation starters” to the table as well.
Instead of the usual “How was your day?” some clever companies have created sets of questions, games and activities that are sure to liven up your meal and provide “food” for thought!
Family Time Fun Games
FamilyTimeFunGames.com offers two sets of dinner time games and activities. The original is designed for families with children ages 5 to 12. The newer version is for children ages 3 to 6. Some games are silly, like who can create the biggest milk mustache or rolling dice to eat veggies. Others are more thoughtful, like planning a vacation anywhere in the world. The games are divided into 6 categories: Numbers and Math; Social Skills; Silly; Vocabulary; Creative Thinking and Memory. ($15.95/set with 51 game cards in each)
Table Topics
TableTopics.com also offers conversation starter sets, with each set as unique as the family or guests seated around your table. There is the Original version, Family, Teen, Couples (this one is for 2 adults!), Girls Night Out, Spirit (questions with a religious or philosophical flavor), and Book Clubs. ($25/set with 135 question cards in each)
Beyond your own dinner table, both of these attractively packaged sets make wonderful hostess gifts. Consider bringing a set to your next dinner party and get ready for some conversation that shines!

I enjoy these tips. One game we play with guests is to put a quarter under one person’s plate and then everyone at the table has to pay them a compliment. The kids love it!
Here is a site that suggests two new table topics every day. Quite often one of the topics is a word or number game.
