Tip of the Week – Improve Your Dinner Time Menus!

Improve Your Dinner Time Menus with these Easy Dinner Recipes!

Generally speaking, I thoroughly enjoy cooking, eating and reading cookbooks!  And so I was surprised a while back when I was having a tough time coming up with ideas for dinner!  A friend of mine, who is a great cook, recommended the magazine Everyday Food, and dinner at my house has been looking up ever since!

Everyday Food is a Martha Stewart publication, but it is nothing like her Living Magazine.  The recipes in Everyday Food are NOT intimidating in any way and will not require hours of labor in the kitchen.  Rather, this magazine offers what it claims to be:  food that you can serve on an every day basis.

Some of the regular columns that I really like in Everyday Food include:

  • In Season –  highlights one item of fresh produce that is currently in season and offers several recipes incorporating that ingredient
  • Healthy Start, Lunch Box and After School Snack address breakfast, lunch and 4:00 p.m. hunger pangs
  • Grocery Bag sends you to the market with recipes to make five family friendly dinners, each only requiring five ingredients
  • Weekend Dinner offers a multi-course meal to make on weekends when you have more time
  • Have You Tried? is my favorite column.  Here, a more unusual ingredient is explained and recipes offered.  Some recent examples: panko, mango chutney, tilapia, tabbouleh and manchego.

Everyday Food is designed to keep your cooking in tune with the seasons, as well as what is actually in season.  For example, comfort food filled the October issue and grilling recipes were the focus of the July issue.  Oddly, I also love the size of this magazine!  At about 5” x 7”, it is small enough to stow in your pocketbook, which actually encourages me to bring it to the market!  Everyday Food is published ten times yearly and a subscription is $18.00/year.

Give Everyday Food a try!  Here’s to happy diners everywhere!

I love this magazine. A great friend of mine encouraged me to subscribe to this magazine. One of my New Year’s resolutions to my family was to cook more family dinners. Having limited time and ability, I find this magazine so helpful in preparing dishes and desserts that my family loves. You will too!
