Tip of the Week - Try Some Glass Refrigerator Dishes!
Years ago, while visiting my husband’s grandparents who lived in a tiny town in Nebraska, I bought a collection of vintage glass refrigerator containers at the local antique store! Before the creation of Tupperware and Gladware, these glass boxes were the best solution for storing leftovers! The lids were made of glass too, and were embossed with what are now vintage looking fruits and vegetables. I loved these containers because they never got food stained and actually looked cute in the fridge! The down side was that these vintage versions weren’t microwave or dishwasher safe.
BUT, since what is old is always new again, refrigerator boxes have made their way back into popularity – and with a lot of new appeal! The current version of these dishes are now dishwasher, freezer, oven and microwave safe, and best of all, will help your family to be “green,” since plastic containers are made from petroleum, a nonrenewable resource! Lastly, you can take leftovers from the fridge to the oven to the table without sacrificing aesthetic appeal!
These boxes are available from Martha Stewart for Kmart (three sizes from $5.99 to $7.99) or from The Container Store (two sizes also from $5.99 to $7.99)!
Take a look at these attractive and practical containers and toss out your mismatched and discolored plastic versions today!

I really enjoyed reading your article about the glass storage boxes. I like them because you can see inside what is actually in there without taking off the lid and they are easy to clean and don’t absorb odors.
These glass containers are wonderful!! My mom now has my grandmothers and they are both decorative and useful. Some of my moms are clear glass and some are white. I did buy some of my own a while back and I greatly enjoy them. Like you said, they don’t stain and they do look nice. Thanks
I THINK THE IDEAS YOU COME UP WITH ARE VERY VERY USUABLE…..
THANKS GUYS……..
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK…..
Dynamite review talking about ! Always enjoy your posts!
I love those glass containers too!
But I have a question:
Why are the vintage glass containers NOT considered microwave safe please?
I know only because my old ones broke in the microwave!
