What a fun dilemma! I totally understand this reader’s wish to vacation in Paris without looking like a geeky tourist!

To start, here’s what I would avoid at all costs: white sneakers, athletic or logo t-shirts, distressed jeans, cotton turtlenecks, ski jackets, anything with a super colorful pattern, birkenstocks and backpacks. (No cameras around your neck either- just kidding!!)

What I would pack would be: simple khakis, white jeans, denim jeans with a long leg, a pair of pointed toe low heeled mules, plain cotton sweaters, well cut t-shirts, white blouses and a few small square silk scarves to tie around your neck and dress up plain outfits. I’d pick up a stylish tote bag for the things you’ll need as you tour the city. Consider buying a pair of Bermuda shorts to wear with ballet flats or espadrilles. For kids and husbands, go with solid tops and bottoms – polo shirts, button down shirts, and khakis.

I hope that this helps, considering that I haven’t been to Paris in years! Bon Voyage!

This is a great tip. And I enjoyed the friendship comments as well.
Here's a challenge - what to wear on a European family vacation? No competing with the Parisians - but I don't want to look like I'm in Epcot either. Any suggestions?
