Tip of the Week: The ABC’s (and D) of Back to School Shopping!
I hardly want to write this tip, since it feels like I’m hurrying up the end of summer, but I do have a few thoughts to make the inevitable a bit easier!
A: Assess before you shop!
Sort through your kids’ drawers and closets and clear out what’s outgrown or just worn out. Make a specific list of what’s needed and do your best to stick to that list!
B: Bring the kids along or let them sit with you while you surf the internet!
While this might be more time consuming, you’ll build excitement about the new school year and reduce wardrobe complaints. Before heading out, be specific about which stores are off limits and what your budget can handle.
C: Coupons and special offers abound!
Don’t shop without them and be alert for restrictive exchange/return policies.
D: Delay!
This tip is my personal favorite! In my part of the country, the weather stays warm well into October and so it’s not really essential to shop for fall or winter clothes right away. There are two benefits to a delay – one, prices on fall merchandise might be marked down and two, your kids will have had a chance to see what “cool” and what’s not this year!
Do you have a back to school shopping strategy? I’d love to hear all about it!
