Retro Foods of the 60’s and 70’s: A Trip Down Memory Lane!
A while ago, in Beauty Flashback, I wrote about a few of the beauty products from my teenaged years that I just couldn’t forget, and from the amazing responses that came from Busy Bee readers, apparently they hadn’t forgotten those products (and more) either! After the fun of reminiscing about the beauty products, I started thinking about the foods that were unique to my generation and so here goes!
Drinks – Tang
Breakfast - Carnation Instant Breakfast
Snacks - Onion dip made with French Onion Soup Mix (the oversized can of Charles Chips was optional!); Jiffy Pop Popcorn
Dinner – Libbyland TV Dinners – when a baby sitter was in order, these were the favorite treat!
Dessert - Jello 1-2-3 (who could forget those three “magical” layers!)
Candy – Pop Rocks

And something that was like ice-cream that you mixed with a fork to make a shake. I dont remember the name, but the flavor was really good!
By the way, loved Count Chocula (original, not the current version) and the Libbyland frozen dinners for kids…Pirate Picnic was always a favorite!
i am trying to find who sells Franco American macaroni in a white cheese sauce , in cans. Can anyone help me?
How about Space Sticks from General Mills or Pillsbury? They came in chocolate and caramel….
And as far as toys go – who can forget Liddle Kiddles (especially the ones that smelled like flowers)?
Does anyone remember a special ice cream sold around Halloween? It had 3 flavors arranged just as they are in neopolitan ice cream today. The flavors were: vanilla, orange sherbet, and black licorice. I LOVED it! I would love to know which company made it (Lucerne? Meadow Gold?) so I could ask them to bring it back. Thanks!
Does anyone remember a commercially packaged pastry of rolled cinnamon roll, formed into a rectangular shape about 5″ x 3″ at the cut edge and maybe 6″ long on the rolled side. It was sliced and the slices were stiff and somewhat crunchy. Very sweet and cinnamon flavored. This was sold during the early 60′s, at least in Arizona, I can’t remember what they were named to see if there is an old recipe out there to try.
Any help or jog to the memory would be really appreciated.

Does anyone remember Chills and Thrills, I think thats what it was called. It was a slushy frozen drink. I would love to see ads or anything about it.
I’ve been trying to find my empty can of Chills & Thrills for years. I kept it because I liked the colorful illustration. I loved making my own cola slushy. Glad someone else remembered! Also, I bought the Franco American white sauce mac about a year ago! I stocked up. I’ll try to recall what store had it.
Back in the 60′s we made a party drink combining sangria wine and 7up, but I can’t remember what they were called, anyone?? Thank you!
I was wondering if anyone remembers a drink mix called PDQ? It mixed in milk like nestle quik. It was like little crunchy nuggets of chocolate. I used to put it on my ice cream. If you do remember, maybe you could tell if I can still get it? Thanks

I actually worked at a factory that made it in Oakfield, NY; Curtis Burns. I was there when they stopped distributing it, and PALLATS of it were taken to the Curtis Burns dump.
Somehow, some of those cases made it into my car : )

does anyone remember the individual snack pie’s(coconut or pecan)and the big oatmeal pies? They were big yet thin.
