Packing the Perfect Travel Kit!
Have you ever arrived at your destination and realized that you’ve forgotten your favorite shampoo or perhaps a razor? Paying attention to the contents of your toiletry kit can lead to a much more enjoyable trip. Don’t find yourself searching in the hotel lobby shop or even worse, a gas station mini-mart! Check your kit against this list and you’ll be covered from head to toe! (Don’t worry, the list may seem long, but each item is small and fits well into a travel kit.)
Include Travel Sizes
- Band-aids
- Breath mints
- Cotton swabs
- Dental floss
- Deodorant
- Eyeglass repair kit (you need this if you wear glasses or sunglasses)
- Face and body moisturizers
- Hair gel/hair spray
- Hair clips or ties
- Jewelry cleaner (I found this in a tube the size of mascara!)
- Lint remover
- Lip balm or Vaseline
- Nail file
- Nail polish remover

Whether you travel on a regular basis, or mostly visit family and friends, a well-packed travel kit, that’s always ready to go, is really helpful. And don’t forget to replenish your kit after each trip!
Traveling with Kids
- I’ve tried on several occasions to create individual toiletry kits for each of my children, but found that it really wasn’t worth the effort! When I travel with my family, I just pack their travel toothbrushes in my bag, along with a few other essentials such as children’s Tylenol, Sudafed, children’s sunscreen and Neosporin.
Some Final Thoughts
- Hotels do offer a variety of toiletries, but I’ve found it’s best not to rely on what’s offered! Many times, I prefer my own brands of shampoo and moisturizers to the hotel freebies!
- Even when traveling to the home of a relative or a friend, it’s better to be well prepared as opposed to asking your host for all sorts of random items!
- If you’ve been inspired to improve the contents of your travel bags, consider investing in a new bag as well! I have two favorite bags! 1) From Vera Bradley, these fabric bags are colorful, fun and come in a very wide range of sizes and styles. The Vera bags are soft sided and easy to pack, as well as machine washable. 2) From Kate Spade, the large cosmetic bag, Dizzy Dot Large, is perfect for travel. The bag’s stiff sides remain upright on a sink or vanity and both the inside and outside are easily wiped clean. A fun extra is the included smaller case that is perfect for jewelry or make up!
I’ve sworn by the contents of my travel kit for years and have truly benefitted from being well prepared no matter where my travels have taken me! Bon Voyage!

Great tips!!! I had the kids and me use the travel pack and it helped prepare the kids a little bit too. Now my kids have fun packing, definitely when we are going on a fun vacation! Thank you, you have really put this family in shape when vacation comes around!!!
