New Year, New You, Blah, Blah, Blah

blackdress2.jpgHow many times have you heard that?  Personally, too many.  Not to mention, I don’t think there’s too much wrong with the ‘old’ me.So January is full of sales…full of resolutions…full of old ornament hooks and husbands slipping off roofs.  So let’s move on to something a little more fun, something with a little more pizzazz! If I may be so bold, January is time to take inventory (read: take hold) of your closet.  To throw out (or better yet, donate) those items not worn in 12 months, or 12 years (good luck trying to fit into your college jeans, move onwards and upward people).  Hole in your sweater, it’s a goner.  Toes scuffed on your shoe, kick ‘em to the curb.  Coat missing buttons, bite the bullet (or buy all new buttons, duh).

Each woman should have the following key items in their closet, at ALL times:

  1. Crisp, clean white (no yellow anywhere, at anytime) Shirt
  2. Slim, simple, FLATTERING (note the capitalization, please) Skirt
  3. The quintessential little Black Dress (classic silhouette, steer clear of the “oh but it’s so cuuuute,” and go classic)
  4. Flat front Trouser (pleats are the pits)
  5. Chic black Pump
  6. Simple riding Boots
  7. Turtleneck Sweater (I say black)

If you don’t have one of these magnificent seven, hit the stores.  But remember, don’t buy something because of the price, purchase something because of the fit and because of the quality.  These pieces should last you a few years.  Just like the ornament hooks and husband!  Cheers,  Shannon
