Tip of the Week: Redefining Restaurants!
I’m an avid, though clearly not professional, follower of food trends and recently wrote about food trends for the new decade, focusing on ingredients and methods of preparation. But another food trend has more to do with where and how you find that meal as opposed to what you ultimately eat!
Trends in Dining!
What I’m referring to is the increasing popularity of pop-up spots, gourmet food trucks and limited time only meals!
Pop-Up Shops
These shops might be a restaurant serving a very unique cuisine (think: Congolese-Western) for a very short time or an indie store front selling confections or cookies for just a few days!
Food Trucks
And not the type of food truck that parks on the same street each day selling lunch food to time strapped office workers! The hot new food trucks carry exceptionally delicious fare and change their location every day! Hungry gourmands locate the trucks by using social media like Twitter.
Limited Time Only
While this might sound like a TV commercial offer, the idea of offering a certain meal for a short time or making only a limited number of a particular entrée is big! A few Manhattan restaurants have announced that they’ll only serve 30 orders each night of a signature dish, or that they’ll only do so at midnight. Look for a rising number of one night themed dinners or prix fixe menus with limited seating.
These trends remind us that our culture loves what’s fleeting! The thrill of the chase and the pleasure in securing something that’s not readily available will surely continue to influence the food biz in years ahead!
