Jack’s Mint Juleps!
Many thanks to my dear friend Elizabeth, for sharing her dad’s famous Mint Julep recipe! This recipe is great for large gatherings, because it does not require individual “muddling” of mint leaves for every cocktail!
Ingredients
- 2 bunches of mint (at least 20 stems)
- Water
- Sugar
- Crushed ice (not shaved or cubed!)
- Bourbon (Jack Daniels is recommended)
- Tall glasses or traditional mint julep silver cups
Directions
- Wash the mint and remove tips for garnish and set tips aside.
- Take the remaining mint stems and combine with 1½ c. water and 1½ c. sugar and place in a sauce pan over gentle heat.
- Masticate the mint in the sugar water mixture to enhance the flavor of the syrup.
- Cool the syrup and strain into a glass container.
- Fill glasses with crushed ice.
- Pour 3 tablespoons of the syrup over the ice.
- Fill with bourbon (yes, fill it!) and garnish with mint leaves.
- Adjust with more syrup if necessary!
Cheers!!
