Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press

Host a Fun Grilled Cheese Get Together!

Host a Grilled Cheese Get Together! I shouldn’t be surprised!  A Krups Panini grill is my favorite kitchen appliance and bread and cheese are my favorite foods.  So, when I decided to write an article about a cozy, winter party with grilled cheese as the main dish, I found that my personal recipe collection was overflowing with gourmet versions of this classic comfort food!

Gather a Few Panini Grills and Plan Your Fillings

Hosting a “Grilled Cheese Get Together” is the perfect answer for a chilly winter weekend afternoon!  Plan to borrow/buy/gather at least two Panini grills and then choose two or three of the filling combinations listed below!   (see Amazon.com for Panini grill pictured)  Add a simple green salad, an olive/pickle bar and some great beers and you’ll be all set!  Here are just some of the delicious, grown up recipes that I’ve collected!

  • Smoked gouda, caramelized onions and sliced pear on pumpernickel
  • Cheddar, bacon and tomato on seven grain
  • Feta, sun-dried tomatoes and olive tapenade on pita
  • Muenster, avocado and bean sprouts on sourdough
  • Provolone, fried green tomatoes and pancetta on country bread
  • Sheep’s Milk Cheese, grilled vegetables and olive tapenade on country bread
  • Cheddar, bacon and mango chutney on whole grain
  • Gorgonzola cheese and honey on a nutty, whole grain bread
  • Smoked mozzarella, prosciutto and fresh basil on focaccia
  • Shredded Fontina and sautéed mushrooms on white bread, drizzled with truffle oil
  • Goat cheese, grilled eggplant and roasted red peppers on olive bread
  • Goat cheese and fig preserves on a baguette
  • Brie and apple on a baguette, with watercress added after grilling

Final Preparations

Once you’ve made your selections, get ready for your party by prepping the necessary ingredients.  You’ll also need to decide if you’d like to grill your sandwiches with olive oil or butter, but based upon my recipe collection, it appears that either works well!  Before your company arrives, draw up a quick menu of the sandwich choices and line up the components on a table or island.  If you’d like, you can take orders or allow guests to assemble their own! Either way, you’ll need some way to keep track of whose sandwich is whose!  You can write names onto paper plates or on small paper flags on tooth picks.

Light a fire in your fireplace, turn on a great sporting event, warm up the Panini grill, open your front door and get ready for a fantastic evening with friends or family!
