Host a Golden Globes Viewing Party

Tip of the Week – Host A Golden Globes Viewing Party!

The 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards will air on Sunday, January 16th at 8:00 p.m. EST on NBC and what better night to get an early start on star gazing and Hollywood buzz!   Hosting a Viewing Party can be as simple or as creative as you’d like – you can theme a menu around the nominated movies or just give a general nod to the movies as a whole.

For A Nominee Themed Party

Here are some party menu suggestions based upon the Golden Globes nominees:

  • The King’s Speech - the setting of England in 1939 suggests warm, cozy food like shepherd’s pie, Welsh rarebit and a trifle to finish off the meal!
  • The Social Network - here’s the perfect excuse to serve food college style with delivery pizza, beer and chips!
  • Burlesque - cocktails and hors d’oeuvres served night club style
  • Mad Men - channel the swanky days of the early sixties!
  • Toy Story 3 or Alice in Wonderland - plan a kid friendly dinner buffet

For a Movie Themed Party

Serve Movie Theatre Snacks – Serve the delicious snacks that we only indulge in when at the movie theatre!  For example, fill trays with Raisinets, Junior Mints, Snow Caps, Milk Duds and Licorice!

Create a Popcorn Bar – And of course, don’t forget the popcorn!   For ideas on creating a unique Popcorn Bar, take a look at Create a Fabulous Popcorn Bar where there are recipes and suggestions for gourmet popcorn that will definitely be the highlight of the evening!

A Few Final Notes

  • Make sure that you have ample seating around the TV, whether with couches, chairs or pillows.
  • Consider setting up a second TV if you’re entertaining a big crowd.

I love this idea for a party! I once attended an awards show party where the hostess had made voting sheets for all the guests so we could see how our guesses stacked up.It was fun to see how our predictions matched the experts…and our friends!
