Holiday Have – To’s!

While this is yet another holiday to do list, this one is all about making the most of this wonderful season!  Don’t let the busyness of Christmas cause you to skip some of the simpler holiday family pleasures! Like …

  • Take a Nighttime Neighborhood Tour - Drive around town looking at your neighbors’ outdoor Christmas lights! (made even better with your kids in pj’s and hot chocolate in a thermos!)
  • Bake Some Cookies - Don’t worry about tricky recipes or mass quantities – just cook up a dozen or two of your family’s favorite type.
  • Watch a Christmas Classic - Watch a classic Christmas television show with the whole family!  Some of our favorites include Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life and any one of those animated shows from the 1970’s!
  • Enjoy Holiday Music - Listen to a Christmas CD in the car!
  • Help Others - Do something as a family to help a less fortunate family!
  • Acknowledge the reason for the season!
  • Plan to see at least one live show - Try to take your family to see a live show.  Even if your home is far from a major city and the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall is out of the question – look for community theatre productions of A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker!
  • Enjoy Reading Your Holiday Cards - Take a minute to sit down and enjoy reading the holiday cards and photos that come in the mail!  We all know how much work it is to get those cards done, so we really should give them their due attention!

As I write this article, I’m glad to remind myself as well of the little things that make this season so special and create the wonderful memories that our children will have forever!  Merry, merry!
