Tip of the Week - Talking to Your Children about the Gulf Oil Spill
At first, I didn’t pay too much attention to the news stories covering the oil leak in the Gulf. Living in the Northeast, along with assuming that the problem would be solved quickly, allowed me to overlook the seriousness of the issue. As the days and weeks have gone by, however, the enormity of the situation is undeniable.
In an effort to educate my children (and myself!) about the spill, I headed to the National Wildfire Federation and their kid friendly expert, Ranger Rick.
In very simple terms and straightforward language, Ranger Rick answers all sorts of questions about the spill. The article explains how the spill occurred, what’s being done to stop it and describes the consequences for people and animals. While the facts are not good, at least your family will have a realistic understanding of this environmental disaster and perhaps can implement some of the site’s suggestions to change things for the future.
