DIY Tutorial: How to Assemble a Gift Basket!
Whether you’re putting together a basket for a birthday, baby shower or for a fund raising event (as I often do when Busy Bee makes an auction donation) there are some little tricks that will give your gift a professional look!
Paper shreds, thin and decorative ribbons, clear strapping tape, cellophane and scissors.
Assemble the Gift Items
I went with a nautical/seafood theme.
Choose a Base
Using a decorative tray or basket can be part of the gift, or if you want to keep costs down, try using a simple, cardboard cake tray or plastic platter!
Get the Items Ready
Remove price tags and take anything that’s not attractively packaged out of it’s packaging! For this basket, I took a set of napkin rings out of the plastic and tied them together with ribbon!
Start Putting the Basket Together
I use clear strapping tape to attach some of the gifts to the tray and to keep everything secure.
Layer in the Items
Put large items in the back, filling in with the smaller items, continuing to tape as you go. Use paper shred in some of the open areas. I stuffed tissue paper into the polka dotted silverware caddy so that some of the smaller items are easily visible!
Wrap it Up
Unroll approximately 2 yards of cellophane and center the tray in the middle. Gather the ends of the cellophane together and tie it off with a thin piece of ribbon or a twist tie.
Tape it Again
Fold the ends of the cellophane like you would when wrapping a package.
Trim the cellophane at the top and add a decorative ribbon.
If you’re assembling a gift basket as a donation from your business, don’t forget to add a few of your business cards! If you’re doing this as a charitable donation, keep of list of what went into the basket and the value so that the basket can be properly priced.
That’s a wrap! Enjoy!
