Appreciate Autumn!

Autumn has come so slowly to my part of the world, central New Jersey, that you might think that it was a “no show!”  But despite our incredibly warm temperatures, we just shouldn’t let go of favorite fall traditions!  Take a look at my list of fall “musts” and see if you can fit a few fun family activities into your busy schedule!

  • Visit an Apple Orchard!  Pick or buy apples fresh from the tree!  Sample apple cider! (And apple cider donuts, if you’re lucky!)
  • Go on a Hayride It doesn’t matter where it’s going as long as you’re a passenger! Take pictures while you’re at it!
  • Don’t Buy Your Pumpkin at the Market!  Visit a pumpkin patch and deliberate your selection at length!
  • Carve a Jack O’ Lantern AND Toast the Pumpkin Seeds!  See Tip of the Week - Toast Your Pumpkin Seeds!
  • Watch a Football Game!  Attend a football game or watch one on TV!  Tailgating is optional!  See Tip of the Week - Tailgating!
  • Observe the Beautiful Foliage!  Go for a walk, bike ride, or drive to observe the beautiful fall foliage!  Gather some fallen leaves to bring home as a reminder!
  • Buy Yourself a Cozy Sweater!  Buy yourself a cozy sweater and pretend that you are a college co-ed from the 1950’s or 60’s!
  • Order Fire Wood !  Order fire wood now so that you can have cozy, evening fires in your fireplace or fire pit!
  • Rake a Pile of Leaves!  Rake a huge pile of fallen leaves and let your children go to town!  This is a camera-required event!

The seasons are truly so short that we shouldn’t let them pass without acknowledging their special qualities!  It’s not too late to choose a few fall activities for your family to enjoy!

Do you have a favorite fall family activity?  I’d love to hear!
