Tip of the Week – New Champagnes for New Year’s Eve
When it comes to champagne, my expertise is pretty limited! I’ve purchased Korbel Champagne which retails for a fairly unexciting $10 and Dom Perignon which breaks the bank, retailing for around $100, leaving a vast unknown in between! But this New Year’s Eve, I’m prepared with a terrific list of the top 10 affordable champagnes from this month’s Food & Wine magazine! Here goes!
- Pol Roger Brut Reserve ($35) – medium bodied and well balanced
- Ayala Brut Majeur ($40) – clean and bright with good acidity
- Bollinger Special Cuvee de Reserve Brut ($50) – an elegant Pinot Noir
- Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve ($55) – complex and full bodied
- Gosset Grande Reserve Brut ($55) – its excellent weight and richness pairs well with food
- Guy Larmandier Vertus Brut Premier Cru ($55) – delicate
- Philipponnat Brut Royale Reserve ($5) described as a “wow” of a wine
- Jean Milan Carte Blance ($60) – creamy and generous
- Alfred Gratien Brut Classique ($70) – well balanced and fruity blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier
I hope that these suggestions have you impressing your New Year’s Eve host or guests with your wine acumen, while taking it easy on your wallet! Cheers!
