Try a Beach theme for a Boys’ 4th Birthday Party!

Beach Ball

A Beach theme for a birthday party can be fun for a wide range of ages - from 4 year olds to 14 year olds!   Upon request, here I’ve written a plan for a 4 year old boy’s party, but this plan can easily be adapted for a variety of ages of boys and girls.

Invitations

  • Using a permanent marker, write your invitations on a deflated beach ball.  This will set the scene for “summer” fun!  Ask guests to come dressed for summer in swimsuits, shorts and tee shirts or sundresses and flip flops!
  • Buy extra beach balls to use a decorations.  Try orientaltrading.com, pictured above.

Decorations

  • Drape your dining table with colorful beach towels.
  • If you dare, sprinkle the towels with sand and shells!  Set up beach chairs around the room.
  • Tie helium balloons to beach buckets filled with sand.
  • Play fun summer music like the Beach Boys or reggae.  Party supply stores sell a variety of compilaton CDs for this theme.
  • If you can do it safely and securely, set up a beach umbrella in an appropriate stand in a corner.
  • Inflate the extra beach balls and set them around the room.

Party Games

  • Check out kitestailtoys.com for the cutest little sand box filled with themed toys such as beach, construction and dinosaur toys.  Set the sand box out for children to play with as they arrive.
  • Use small fishing nets to fish for rubber ducks floating in a kiddie pool.  Write numbers on the bottom of the ducks that correspond to little prizes.
  • Make a foam creation.  Oriental Trading has many choices with a tropical or ocean theme.
  • Play Pass the Present with beach or summer themed gifts.
  • Play Limbo.
  • Play Musical Beach Chairs.
  • Break a Pinata.  For the cutest pinata ever, go to birthdaypartyinabox.com and consider the beach ball shaped pinata that looks just like your beachball invitation!

What to Serve

  • Think summer favorites.  Warm up the grill (Dad!) and cook hamburgers and hotdogs.  Fruit salad, ice pops, water ice, salt water taffy, boardwalk style French fries, lemonade and goldfish crackers are all fun.
  • Don’t forget about the parents who have brought their children to the party!

Favors

Rainbow Sunglasses

  • Send the children home with beach pails filled with any of the following: sunglasses, bubbles, gummy fish, Goldfish crackers, sunscreen, or flip flops.  Try Target’s dollar spot or your local dollar store!
  • As an alternative to gathering all of these items, consider beach towels with kids’ favorite characters on them.  Roll the towels and tie them with a bright ribbon.

When it’s all over, sit back, relax and have a Pina Colada!

Do you have an idea for a 4 year old boy’s birthday party?  I’d love to hear!
