Clever Baby Shower Gifts!

It had been years since I had been to a baby shower, but this year I both hosted one for a friend and attended one for my cousin!  When it came to selecting baby shower gifts for these women, I knew that the easiest way to choose a gift would be to follow the recommendations of the baby registry.  But if those choices have been exhausted or if what’s left exceeds your budget, or you feel like being a bit more creative, here are a few ideas for baby shower gifts that are a little out of the ordinary!

Books, CD’s and DVD’s

This category is often missed and definitely will be appreciated by a first time mom!  All of the recommendations below are easily found at amazon.com.

This is an easy one!  Choose any of the movies produced by Baby Einstein.   These movies will definitely fascinate that new baby!

CDs

Explore the new Rockabye Baby! series of CD’s.  Each CD contains lullaby renditions of songs by a famous artist.  Available artists include Green Day, U2, Bob Marley, The Beatles and more.  New parents will really appreciate this hip gift!

Framed Shower Invitation

This idea works best if the shower invitation has been chosen to coordinate with the color scheme of the nursery!  If so, have that invitation professionally framed to be hung in the baby’s room!  This gift is both sentimental and decorative!

Portrait Studio Gift Certificate

Purchase a gift certificate to one of your area’s portrait studio chains!  In my area, The Picture People are located in the mall and do a great job with portraits.  Wrap the gift certificate in a cute frame and be confident that the new parents will be thrilled with your present!

Think of the parents!

Pick up a little something for the baby and then consider the following ideas:

• Manicure/ pedicure/massage gift certificates for mom

Magazine Subscription to Cookie

Last but not least consider a magazine subscription for the new parents!  When my children were small the magazines directed toward new parents were pretty serious and actually made me nervous as I read them.  Not any more!  Take a look at the new Conde Nast publication, Cookie!  This magazine is bright, colorful and fun for each member of a young family!  Recipes, clothing tips, family events, and more are included each month.  Grab a copy off of your local newsstand, wrap it up with some home baked cookies and you’ll bring the sweetest gift to the shower! (12 issues for $12)
